Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve been dating, maybe it hasn’t and you’re just looking for some advice to help you kick off the new decade with a date! Here at Dating Over 50’s we’re ready to share with you some of the tips and advice from happy couples we’ve matched so far.
You can’t make a first impression twice! Your opening line is really important in the world of online dating and it really can be a matter of make or break. Take the time to read through your love interest’s profile and try to open with something original that is specific to them. It’s also a good idea to have a recent photograph of yourself which is really clear and represents you, so your date can really see who you are and what you’re about. No surprises.
Why so serious?
Just because it’s called ‘mature dating‘, we don’t have to be serious all the time, nor is everyone expecting you to settle down with the first person that comes your way. Dating is fun and you don’t need to settle down until you’re ready, so enjoy the ride. You’re as old as you feel or so they say so find someone who keeps you young and who you can have fun with. Bring back your immaturity. Laughter is the best medicine after all!
Two ears, one mouth.
‘Listen twice as much as you speak’ as the saying goes is another good piece of advice when you’re first settling back into the dating scene. The best relationships are formed when couples really listen to each other. It’s important not to take this advice too literally though, as no one likes an awkward silence whilst you’re both trying to listen more than you speak! Keep the questions flowing without it becoming an interview and you’ll both find out plenty about one another.
No cheese – please!
‘Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk past again?’ Leave the cheesy chat up lines in the last decade…or at least until after the first date! Whilst there’s always a time and a place for a great one-liner, do you really want your potentials dates first impression of you to be ‘cringe’? Save the terrible lines for a rainy day.
Try something new.
Whilst we often look for a partner with similar interests or hobbies, remember opposites attract. Trying something new with a potential partner could be just what you need to light the spark! Don’t be intimidated or put off by not having many similarities on your profile, if the initial attraction is there, it’s certainly worth exploring. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying something new is exciting and who knows you could even discover new hobbies you love together!
Dating is an exciting time in your life, so don’t be nervous. They’ll be people you connect with and people you don’t, but that’s all part of the fun. Prepare to get that butterfly feeling back with Dating Over 50’s.
