There’s Nothing Like a Global Pandemic to Ram the Brakes on Your Dating Life… or is There?

Whilst we all find ourselves staying at home, we’re taking government guidelines very seriously and for the time being, will be advising all our members to stay indoors and save meeting face to face for when this is all over, but in the meantime, here are our thoughts on dating during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Put your date on ice.

First things first, if you had any dates or meetups in the diary. Make sure you cancel, opt for an online alternative such as Skype or if you’re too nervous to go into video mode, just stick with our online chat. Your date will totally understand not meeting but it would be nice to spend the time together online regardless.

Try to keep the conversation light and ask some of the things you would have, had you have been there in the flesh. At least with already being at home, you won’t have to cut your night early to make the last train… If the conversations are flowing, why not stay up an extra hour and chat. There’s something romantic about being the last person someone spoke to before they went to sleep…(Cue joke about being the man/woman of their dreams)!

Keep in touch.

Now more than ever, it’s important to stay in touch. With everyone being forced to isolate, being single can be particularly lonely. Just because you can’t meet face to face it doesn’t mean your relationship isn’t going anywhere. There’s always time to talk & in a situation like this, we really should make the effort to communicate more. It doesn’t all need to be Covid-19 related, in fact a welcome break from the constant stream of news would probably be greatly appreciated by both you and your date!

You can learn a lot from how someone reacts in a crisis.

My father always said he never judged anyone on how they treated him when things were good, he judged them on how they acted when things were going wrong. Is your potential match supporting you? Lifting others up? Do you feel better after chatting to them? The way people act in a crisis says a lot about their character.

Are you the type of person who volunteered to help those in need or are you the type of person who is sat at home on a mountain of unnecessary toilet paper? Are you spreading fear or love? Now is a good time to understand if you & your potential partners’ moral compasses point in the same direction.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Or so the saying goes, and now it’s time to put it to the test! But that doesn’t mean your dating has to stop, why not arrange an online version? Whether that’s a Skype and dinner date with a glass of wine each or an online game together, there are plenty of things to do online that suit both your interests, you just have to get a little more creative!
